Writing with Chinese guy’s point of view is going to focus on emotional feelings. But, in the end, she feels that she has already loved him dearly when she is on the boat going back to France. Within this setting, the novel explores questions of race, nationality, and gender as the 20th century unfolds into World War II and the end of French Colonial era in Asia concludes. She believes that she just loves the guy with much money. She is a kind of mature and profound girl who prefers money than love. In the novel, the girl narrates from the perspective of years and life experience. The reason why I chose this novel is to want to tell the story from this Chinese guy’s point of view. This relationship (having sex) continues until the girl’s family move back to France. This novel mainly talks about the love affair between the young girl and her lover in his mid-thirties in French colonial Indochina, where the colonial French society of the area is scandalized and largely isolates the French girl’s family. Later, she begins a sexual relationship with that guy because he can help financially to support her family. She is crossing the river on a ferry and she meets a wealthy Chinese guy who is in his mid-thirties. Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Marguerite Duras.

I felt very sorry about those characters who made the situation worse because they hid the love. If the characters in the novels were more upfront and honest about their feelings to each other, especially the main character French little girl rarely express what she felt, they would escape that misfortune. I can’t stop thinking about the sadness in these novels. Having a tragic ending kept me thinking of those stories for a long time. I was especially impressed by this novel because it is the story of intense romance which ends in tragedy. There is also a movie The Lover (French: L’Amant) produced in 1992. I’m going to base my Re-Write on “The Lover”, which is a French novel by Marguerite Duras in 1984.
